National Release 3rd May, 2003 |
Lasertech, a local company supports Bolton Hospice by launching a dedicated recycling programme
Nick has always offered to buy back his customers empty cartridges, but he has now launched a dedicated programme to allow Bolton's hospice benefit from recycling printer consumable waste.
It is estimated that in 1999 alone over 7 million Printer Toner Cartridges were consumed in the UK. Only 25% of these were recycled which means that at least 5.25 million were thrown away as waste and ended up in landfills. The materials used to make a Toner Cartridge takes over 100 years to decompose, this means the Lasertech Recycling Programme will help cut the amount of waste plastic and metal ending up in the UK landfills.
Lasertech Wigan and Bolton will provide businesses, shops and schools throughout the area with collection bins to save their used toner and ink cartridges in. Once the bins are full Lasertech will arrange for a free collection and pay for the empty cartridges, offering customers the option to either donate a percentage of the money to the Bolton Hospice, save money for their business or receive the full value in high street shopping vouchers.

The Lasertech Head Office will then recycle the Used Cartridges. If the outer case of the toner cartridge is in good condition then it will be reused as a shell for a new manufactured Printer Toner Cartridge. All the internal components of the cartridges will be turned back into their base form.
The money donated to the Bolton Hospice will help towards providing care to patients and families throughout Bolton. The hospice needs to raise over £1 million pound every year, the recycling programme will help towards achieving this and also raise environmental awareness in the area.
