Councils Reinforce Environmental Responsibility with the
Lasertech Recycling Programme
Lasertech, one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of printer, fax and photocopier consumables, in the UK, are providing councils with recycle bins for them to collect empty cartridges in.
When the bins are full they are collected by Lasertech and the participants of the programme are credited. A percentage of this credit can then be donated to a Lasertech partner charity.
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, Warrington Borough Council and Vale Royal Borough Council, are the most recent Councils to join the Programme.
Lasertech are one of only a small number of companies in the UK who are licensed by the Environment Agency to recover, reuse and recycle empty printer cartridges. If the outer case of the toner cartridge is in good condition it will be reused as a shell for a new manufactured printer toner cartridge. All the internal components of the cartridges will be replaced with new, and the old components will be recycled back into their base form.
Lasertech are members of the Cheshire and Warrington Business Environment Association, and have recently gained ISO 14001, reinforcing their own commitment to the environment.
It is estimated that in the year of 1999 alone over 7 million Printer Toner Cartridges were consumed in the UK. Only 25% of these were recycled which means that at least 5.25 million were thrown away as waste and ended up in landfills. The material used to make a toner cartridge takes over ten decades to decompose.
The Lasertech Recycling Programme is helping to cut the amount of waste plastic and metal ending up in the UK landfills, save schools, businesses and other organisations money, and raise funds for charity.
